Mechanicsville Telephone Company Changes Name to Mechanicsville Fiber
To better reflect its current services, Mechanicsville Telephone Company will become Mechanicsville Fiber, effective April 2nd, 2025. This name change ushers in a new chapter for the independent, locally owned and operated company, which began offering telephone service in 1901.
General Manager Hans Arwine said, “As technology evolved, so did the direction of our company. We used to only provide telephone service, but that’s no longer the case. Our telephone lines have decreased by 60%, and our primary service is now fiber internet. So, it makes sense to move forward as Mechanicsville Fiber.”
To go along with the new Mechanicsville Fiber name, the company’s logo has been redesigned. Gone is the old-fashioned telephone image from the original logo. It’s been replaced by modern graphics which convey speed.
Fiber is the gold standard for super-fast and reliable internet connections, far exceeding what’s possible with DSL, satellite, fixed wireless, and other network technologies. In 2014, then Mechanicsville Telephone Company began building its fiber network in Mechanicsville, IA, and later expanded into Lisbon and Mount Vernon as well as the surrounding rural communities.
“Fiber has led to tremendous growth. We went from 600 subscribers in 2016 to 2,500 in 2025. Mechanicsville Fiber is currently the only provider in this area that offers fiber internet via Fiber to the Home. Our other big advantage is our local team of employees. When a customer needs a service call, we can respond much more quickly than our national competitors. These are the only communities we serve, and we’re in the immediate area all day, every day, “ said Arwine.
He added, “Mechanicsville Fiber has a top-notch fiber network across 30 miles. We don’t cut corners with materials or construction. We do things the best way possible, so our customers can enjoy better quality internet with more stability and reliability. We haven’t had an outage at a network level since 2014.”Interested parties can visit the new website at mechanicsvillefiber.com to get details on the fiber internet plans with speeds up to 5 Gig that are currently available in Mechanicsville Fiber’s service area.
While the name, logo, and website have changed, some things remain the same. Arwine explained, “Our company remains committed to quality and stability, and we’re determined to stay on top of things and work efficiently to best serve our customers. They’ll continue to see familiar faces in the office and be able to talk to a local person when they call. They’ll also see our team out and about in the communities we serve.”
